April 7, 2023 | People We Should Know: Jimmy Dore

John Rubino is a former Wall Street financial analyst and author or co-author of five books, including The Money Bubble: What to Do Before It Pops and Clean Money: Picking Winners in the Green-Tech Boom. He founded the popular financial website DollarCollapse.com in 2004, sold it in 2022, and now publishes John Rubino’s Substack newsletter.

Something interesting is happening on the left side of the US political spectrum. People who view themselves as liberal or even socialist are concluding that we’re now ruled by a single “uniparty” — in effect an aristocracy — that profits from wars, pandemics, and financial crises, and actively creates these events in order to impoverish, distract, and control the rest of us.

The result is a rhetorical civil war in which a growing number of serious people attack the mainstream Democrat party from the left while using language that would be at home on Fox News.

Journalists Matt Taibbi (profiled here in February) and Glenn Greenwald are arguably the movement’s biggest names. But another (very funny) one is Jimmy Dore, a stand-up comic who began by questioning the honesty of the Russia-collusion attacks on Donald Trump and then segued into “Force the Vote,” an attempt to convince congressional progressives to withhold their vote for Nancy Pelosi as speaker of the House to force a floor vote on Medicare for All. This failed when the progressives caved, and many of Dore’s former allies savaged him for causing a public ruckus.

Disillusioned by what he saw as the capture of the left by the corporate state, Dore has since built a career on pointing out the uniparty’s hypocrisies, to the outrage of the Establishment and the delight of an eclectic and growing audience. Here are four representative videos, starting with one of Dore’s many on Force the Vote:

US imperialism:

Vaccine mandates:

The latest fake Trump prosecution:

Populist Coalition?

My point in covering the left’s civil war is that it creates the possibility of a broad, left/right/middle populist coalition that might be strong enough to oppose ever-greater wealth concentration, endless war, and domestic authoritarianism. Jimmy Dore and Tucker Carlson on the same team is the aristocracy’s nightmare.
