November 19, 2019 | America on a Collision Course with China

You know I’ve been harping on war cycles.

How they’re converging in a way we haven’t seen in 50 — maybe even 100 — years.

Well, the “Great War” of the 21st century has ALREADY STARTED.

You see, while it’s basically “Civil War II” in America …

While half the country views the president as America’s savior and the other half seems to think he’s the “Devil incarnate” …

While half think he’s winning a game of 3D chess and the other half think he’s losing a game of checkers …

While the opposition mantra “Russia collusion” is replaced with the mantra “Ukraine phone call” …

The most serious threat to America’s growth and global influence isn’t really Russia after all.

It’s China.

It’s China that’s playing 3D chess to America’s checkers … and has been for decades.

Truth be told, when it comes to growth and global hegemony, while the USSR and Russia largely FAILED …

China has been an outstanding SUCCESS!

Yes, my friend, we are in a new cold war. But the primary competitor, antagonist and adversary is China.

This war has four components:

  1. A Trade War
  1. A Tech War
  1. A Geopolitical War
  1. A Capital War

Over the next few weeks, we’ll look at each. But first, let me explain why the Middle Kingdom is the greatest threat to America’s global power in our time.

Make China Great Again!

When Xi Jinping took the reins of power in China in 2013, the West saw a harmless-looking man with a genial smile … a Chinese Mikhail Gorbachev.

They expected he would replace China’s “old guard” and institute the democracy of their dreams.

Another example in a long history of wishful thinking.

Xi consolidated power. He then abolished term limits, making himself President for Life.

And he has since become the most powerful Chinese leader since Mao Zedong.

A little history:

In the decades following the Opium Wars of the mid-1800s, the West called China “the Sick Man of East Asia” … “a barbaric, inferior race.” And Western powers used that weakness to divide up China between them.

That “Century of Humiliation” is still etched on the Chinese psyche.

In the early part of the 20th century, Mao Zedong set out on his Long March to power with a ragtag army. He was determined to transform China into an economic and military powerhouse.

Now, let’s jump forward from Mao to Xi Jinping. His favorite slogan is “The China Dream of National Rejuvenation.” It’s from a 2009 “recommended” best-seller called “The China Dream” by Colonel Liu Mingfu of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

It tells how China will replace America as the world’s superpower … how the Soviets failed to supplant the U.S. … and why China’s efforts will be different.

To quote Colonel Liu …

“China’s grand goal in the 21st century is to become the world’s No. 1 power … [Mao] dared to craft a grand plan to surpass America, stating that beating the United States would be China’s greatest contribution to humanity.”

China’s leaders like to quote the philosopher Confucius: “There cannot be two suns in the sky.

The ultimate goal of the “Hundred-Year Marathon,” according to Colonel Liu:

“China’s ‘superior’ civilization is at the top. Other civilizations, like America, are part of the ‘barbarian wilderness.’”

Michael Pillsbury is the director of the Center for Chinese Strategy at the Hudson Institute. He says:

“We are facing in China what may become the largest challenge in our nation’s history.”

Do you get the picture? The current rumble between the U.S. and China is more than a temporary spat over market restrictions, intellectual property and the U.S. trade deficit.

“The China Dream” since the People’s Republic was founded in 1949 is to become the greatest superpower in the history of the world.

To achieve its goal, China’s 100-Year Marathon looks back at “secret codes” from the Warring States period, which ended around 221 BC with unification under the Qin dynasty.

And America has fallen for nearly every one!
