Taking this a step further, you will find that WorkSafeBC is over billing small businesses to the tune of $6.6 billion in 2018. This not only applies to the construction industry, but all small businesses in BC that pay into WorkSafeBC.
The NDP government have been asked to refund small businesses for these over charges, but instead of refunding small business who have paid these premiums, the NDP government are looking at ways to spend the surplus.
According to the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) these over funded premiums by WCB in other provinces have been going on across Canada, but at least some of the provinces have recognized these over charges and have refunded some of the money to small businesses in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
The CFIB have stated that WorkSafeBC has been over funded since 2015, so this has not just happened, but is an on going issue that needs to be rectified.
