After watching the demonstrations over in Hong Kong for the past two weeks my question is ‘what do these demonstrators really want’? I think I know! The word is ‘Freedom’. The demonstrators desire continuing freedom from a dictatorial hierarchy in the mainland who desire to control their behavior.

It is natural for the young in Hong Kong to want freedom and individual control over their future. Down deep in the psychology of these demonstrators is this emotion called ‘individual freedom’. Many are displaying the America flag as a symbol of freedom. They are singing the American anthem as an emotion of freedom.

What is happening over in Hong Kong should be of interest to everyone. We all want freedom and control over our own destiny. Who wants a small hierarchy of elites to make all the rules and regulations. This is anathema to the basic desire for freedom and self government.

As Americans we should applaud these young who desire continuing freedom and self government. We do not need to approve the violence but we should approve the basic motivation for more and continuing freedom. If the Chinese hierarchy steps in and squashes this emotion of freedom for the people of Hong Kong, I will not support this attempt by the establishment.

It is obvious, to me, that the basic motivation of this group (multi-thousands) is continuing freedom for the people. I support this emotion and HOPE that it is not squashed. History, however, is not on my side. The STATE will likely prevail and the demonstrators will be jailed (many may lose their life). This is unfortunate and not representative of this American value called ‘individual freedom’.

In my mind the real core emotion that we all should support is this desire for self government and individual freedom. Americans do have much more freedom than the citizens over in Asia. I think it is now time for the entire world to create an atmosphere where individual freedom can prevail for everyone. What is your view on this situation over in Hong Kong? Think for yourself on this issue. Have a great day!
