  • Tony Veiga says:

Mr. Easton is absolutely correct that mainstream media puts out a meme because the elite/political class is composed of authoritarians in search of glory, control, power, money, and (sometimes) sex. All media is bad about that but visual media is the worst because, as the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. It even goes to trying to manipulate attitudes beyond the product in television commercials and prominently placing (at a price, of course) brand products in movie scenes. That is why I like getting information from radio and print. It makes you think which visual media is designed to make you NOT do. Visual media prefers you to emote.

That being said, the mainstream media is not involved in a grand conspiracy with politicians to control your life. They just do it because they went to the same schools, hang out together and think the same way. Their behavior is much like your geese coming to Florida for the winter. The geese did not get together, talk it over and decide to come here from October to April. It just comes naturally.

What I don’t like about alternative media is a tendency to mix in unsupportable assertions which, I suppose, are meant to make a stronger case that things are bad and “those people” are trying to have their way with us. That’s really unnecessary. The truth is bad enough.

As examples of unsupportable assertions I offer the following:
    1. Roosevelt knew about the planned attack on Pearl Harbor. (He believed war was coming but, like everyone except the Japanese, he didn’t know how, when or where it would start)
    2. The CIA killed Kennedy and there was another shooter on the grassy knoll. (Lee Harvey Oswald, a goofy, Communist loser who once defected to the Soviet Union, was the only gunman)
    3. The Israelis, or the CIA, or the Saudis, etc., etc., were behind 9-11. (Radical Islamic terrorists, many of whom were from Saudi Arabia, crashed all of the airplanes on 9-11 and all the damage was caused by the airplanes from the impact or the fire from burning jet fuel)
    4. Contrails are Chemtrails. (They are condensation)
    5. Monsanto is Satan. (Monsanto is a company that wants to make money, not kill its’ customers)
    6. GMOs will kill us all. (forget that what Gregor Mendel did was genetic modification)
    7. And the most important and prolific assertion, Marijuana/Cannabis is the greatest thing since grits, will cure cancer, Parkinson’s, cerebral palsy, schizophrenia, and bad breath. (It is dope for dopes; meant to get you trashed like five or six drinks will get you trashed)

This last one I find particularly amusing. The substance was used extensively by native tribes of America often during ceremonies during which they offered human sacrifices and then ate body parts. These ancient civilizations disappeared long before the arrival of Europeans but somehow it will be beneficial if we emulate them. I don’t get it. Credibility, once lost, is hard to regain.
